Why Workers and Employers Choose Safety First Training
For Canadian employers, supervisors, and workers building a safe, respectful workplace.
Isocyanates are among the most common causes of work-related asthma in Canada, and their biggest danger is one you can't see coming: sensitization. Once your body becomes sensitized, even a tiny future exposure can trigger a severe, sometimes life-threatening reaction, which is why learning to recognize and control isocyanates matters so much. Are you prepared to protect yourself and your team from the hidden dangers of isocyanates? This course will equip you with essential knowledge to recognize isocyanate hazards, understand their serious health risks, and ensure compliance with Canadian OHS regulations. You'll discover how to identify isocyanate-containing products, apply effective controls, and respond confidently to emergencies. With a focus on real-world practices and regulatory requirements, this course empowers workers, supervisors, and safety
professionals to create safer, healthier workplaces.
Isocyanate safety is a shared responsibility. Protecting workers from isocyanates is a shared responsibility. Employers are required to identify where isocyanates
are used, assess and monitor exposure, control it using the hierarchy of
controls, provide suitable protective equipment, and offer training and, where required, medical surveillance. Workers, in turn, are expected to follow safe work procedures, use and maintain their protective equipment correctly, and report leaks, spills, or concerns about exposure.
Learn what isocyanates are, the common types such as MDI, TDI, and HDI, and the industries and products where you'll find them, from spray foams and coatings to adhesives, paints, and polyurethane manufacturing.
Understand how isocyanates affect the lungs, skin, and eyes, and the central danger of sensitization, where repeated exposure primes the immune system so that even a tiny future exposure can trigger a severe asthma attack.
Learn the Canadian rules that govern isocyanate use, including WHMIS, occupational exposure limits, and the CSA standards that apply to controls such as respiratory protection, along with the duties that employers, supervisors, and workers each hold.
Learn how workplaces assess isocyanate risk, how air monitoring measures exposure, and the role of medical surveillance in catching early signs of sensitization or overexposure before they become serious.
Learn how to reduce isocyanate exposure from the source outward, through elimination, substitution, engineering controls, and safe work practices, and how to select, fit, and maintain the respiratory, skin, and eye protection that serves as the last line of defence.
Learn how to respond safely to isocyanate spills and releases, contain and clean them up correctly, provide first aid for exposure, and report an incident.
The course is fully self-paced, so you can start, stop, and pick up again on your own schedule. Every lesson is voice-narrated with interactive checkpoints that confirm you've absorbed each section before moving on. As soon as you pass the final exam, you can immediately generate your certificate.
